Archive for August, 2007
Thanks to the awesome seltaeb65 from our forums for giving us the heads up on the following article from Entertainment Weekly.
PENELOPE
Christina Ricci may be wondering if the curse on her character in the fantastical Penelope extends to the film itself. Wrapped in spring 2006, the movie — about a woman with a piglike schnoz — was due out in April 2007, got bumped to August, and has now dropped off the schedule. Reps for Reese Witherspoon’s production company, Type A, say that with original distributor IFC no longer in the picture, the release has been delayed, but there’s no official word on how long.
Thanks to Latcher from our forums for keeping everyone up to date on Penelope! According to Indie Wire, Penelope was dropped by IFC films and is going to be released in February 2008 with another studio. Here’s an excerpt from the article:
A theatrical release of Mark Palansky’s “Penelope,” the Toronto ‘06 premiere starring Reese Witherspoon which had been scheduled to open this Friday, was recently dropped. With no larger-budget releases on its longterm slate, IFC is instead focusing on its emerging IFC First Take label that simultaneously releases independent and foreign language films in theaters and via cable TV video-on-demand services.
Acquired jointly by IFC Films and The Weinstein Company out of Toronto last year (with IFC handling North American theatrical distribution and TWC taking home video), “Penelope” was initially slated for a wide release in April but ten days before opening day, IFC publicly announced that the film had been bumped to August 17th. A Type A Films production that was financed and produced by Stone Village Pictures, the film was written by Leslie Caveny and also stars James McAvoy, Catherine O’Hara and Peter Dinklage.
In recent weeks, it became clear that IFC would not be releasing “Penelope” and indieWIRE has confirmed that the film’s producers are planning a February 2008 release with another company.

As some of you might know already, Penelope has been delayed again. The film was supposed to be released this April, then the studio pushed it back to August 17, now they pulled it from August release. No word on when the new release date is, but if you check the official movie website, http://www.penelopethemovie.com/, it just states “coming soon”. Hopefully we’ll get a new release date soon! Thanks to the lovely folks at the forums for spotting this out. :D
I just want to post and let everyone know the status of the site and my online-ness. It looks like the first of September is when I’ll have my internet back up and running and that will finally mean updates! I’m so sorry things haven’t been like they normally are, but since I have no connection I really have no motivation to work on site things. I mean, what’s the point when I can only upload when I’m at school two days a week? So yeah, once I get my internet back, I’m getting things back on track here!
At SDCC, Joel Silver had some great things to say about next year’s “Speed Racer” flick. Silver is producing the film under his Silver Pictures banner. The famously camera-shy Andy and Larry Wachowski are writing and directing.
Silver said, “What they are doing on ‘Speed Racer’ is truly remarkable. They have seen the movie in a way that only they can that you never picked up before. They loved the original animated series.”
He added, “We have a fantastic cast. Emile Hirsch is Speed and Christina Ricci is Trixie. It’s really a great group and a great story – very colorful, and the races are just unbelievable.”
