Robert Pattinson, Uma Thurman, Kristin Scott Thomas, Christina Ricci to star
London… 2nd February, 2010… Principal photography on BEL AMI is to start on February 7th 2010, shooting on locations in London and Budapest.
Robert Pattinson (Twilight series, Remember Me) plays Georges Duroy in this erotically charged story of ambition, power and seduction. Uma Thurman (Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill) is Madeleine, Kristin Scott Thomas (Nowhere Boy, I’ve Loved You So Long) is Virginie, Christina Ricci (Monster, The Ice Storm) is Clotilde, Holly Grainger (Scouting Book for Boys) is Suzanne, Philip Glenister (Life on Mars, Calendar Girls) is Charles, and Colm Meaney (The Damned United, The Snapper) plays Duroy’s adversary, Rousset. The screenplay is written by Rachel Bennette from the novel by Guy de Maupassant, and the film is directed by the influential and innovative Cheek By Jowl directors Declan Donnellan and Nick Ormerod.
BEL AMI is the story of Georges Duroy, who travels through 1890s Paris, from cockroach ridden garrets to opulent salons, using his wits and powers of seduction to rise from poverty to wealth, from a prostitute’s embrace to passionate trysts with wealthy beauties, in a world where politics and media jostle for influence, where sex is power and celebrity an obsession.

Happy 2010 everyone! To start of the new year right, we now have word that Christina has signed on to a new film titled “Bel Ami”, which is set to start filming next month in Europe.
Robert Pattinson begins rehearsals next month with a line-up of leading ladies including Uma Thurman, Kristin Scott Thomas and Christina Ricci.
And that’s just for starters. They will be preparing for a screen version of Guy de Maupassant’s 19th-century novel Bel Ami about a thoroughly shameless Lothario who goes through life with an open fly.
Pattinson, who saunters through those Twilight movies like a tomcat who lapped up a lot of cream, will play Georges Duroy, a Frenchman of humble beginnings who works his way up from being a minor office clerk to become a powerful editor possessing great political influence.
Each rung up the ladder represents the influence of a powerful woman. More often than not, once he has finished with them he starts on their daughters. Thurman will play Madeleine, Duroy’s first conquest.
Ricci takes on the role of Clotilde, whose husband is often away, and Scott Thomas plays Virginie, the wife of Duroy’s editor-in-chief. He likes her daughter, too.
Directors Declan Donnellan and Nick Ormerod are meeting three other actresses who will play women with whom Duroy also associates.
The directing duo are from the theatre and are adept at working with classic texts and making them entertaining and accessible. More importantly, they also know how to get the best work out of their cast.
The picture is being produced by Uberto Pasolini, but pop visionary Simon Fuller is executive producer in what is his first foray into big-screen films.
Christina Ricci is joining Robert Pattinson (“The Twilight Saga”), Uma Thurman and Kristin Scott Thomas in the Declan Donnellan-directed Bel Ami, an adaptation of Guy de Maupassant’s short story which starts filming next month.
The movie tells the story of George Duroy (Pattinson), a young journalist who rose from poverty to become one of the most successful men in Paris via the ruthless and calculating bedding of the city’s most glamorous and influential women.
Thurman plays the wife of Duroy’s friend, a woman who is extremely involved and connected in the goings-on of Parisian society. She helps Duroy in his ascent, later becoming his wife. Thomas plays a socialite who falls for Duroy, becoming clingy in the process.
There is more information about the short film that Christina filmed last month for DKNY… It IS a short film for the fashion retailer’s Eldridge bag – it is NOT a full length movie. Anymore info that I find, I will be sure to post!
Jake Sumner, the model son of Sting and Trudie Styler, is getting into moviemaking. The 24-year-old aspiring director has been tapped by DKNY to shoot a short film for the fashion retailer’s Eldridge bag. We’re told that Christina Ricci has been cast as the lead of the film, which is slated to be shot in the penthouse of the Soho Grand hotel.
